On Tuesday, Bungie disclosed Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the MMO’s third big expansion. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, Bungie didn’t have its usual, documentary style reveal. Bungie has given extra information on just what that transition will look like when the ports release this holiday season.

Instead, game director Luke Smith and general manager Mark Noseworthy led players through various different features, showing some footage, and describing upcoming changes. Bungie will launch Destiny 2: Beyond Light on Sept. 22 this year.

Here’s everything we know about Destiny 2: Beyond Light:

Bungie is promising the next-gen versions of Destiny 2 will support 60fps and 4K resolution on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, marking a significant jump from the 30fps / 1080p version of the game on current-generation consoles.

EUROPA

The detail of the expansion will focus mainly on the aliens known as the Fallen. They’ve been scattered and disorganized for quite a while now, but they’ll be coming back on Europa under a new leader called Eramis, and it sounds like they’ll also be wielding the Darkness–which probably means they’ll have new powers for players to contend with. According to director Luke Smith, Eramis wants revenge against the Traveler for abandoning the Fallen centuries earlier.

DARKNESS SUBCLASSES

The biggest feature for Beyond Light is the ability to wield new abilities against the Darkness. the Darkness will introduce an element called Stasis — based around manipulating time. And just like the game’s original three elements, players will be able to wield Stasis weapons and battle against enemies with Stasis attacks.

RAID ON THE DEEP STONE CRYPT

We also found out that Beyond Light will continue the story of the Exo Stranger, a character we haven’t seen since the vanilla story campaign of Destiny 1. We also found out about Destiny 2’s next raid, which will take place in a location called Deep Stone Crypt.

We don’t know what went on in Deep Stone, but story hints have suggested it was not a nice place to be–and we’ll finally be there to find out for ourselves.

A NEW KIND OF FALLEN

Beyond Light comes with a new type of Fallen enemy to fight. Eramis, calling herself the Fallen Kell of Darkness, seeks the Pyramid ships. Eramis and her Fallen have built a new empire on the surface of Europa, and players will clash with the new faction as they both seek the power of the Darkness.

Bungie will launch Destiny 2: Beyond Light for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on Sept. 22. Next-generation versions of Destiny 2 and Beyond Light will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X later this year.
