Preparing for board exams is not something that you can do in 1 or 2 months. To ace your board exams it is necessary that you start putting in the hard work and are consistent throughout the academic year. Chemistry is divided into 3 parts- physical, organic and inorganic chemistry. Physical chemistry makes for 23 marks in the final exam. Students need to have a strong base in mathematical equations to score good marks in this unit. Organic chemistry is the most important unit. It makes for 28 marks in the final exam. It consists of compounds, reaction equations and important reactions and theories that can be asked in long-answer type questions in the exam. Inorganic chemistry consists of the periodic table and properties of elements and makes up for 19 marks in the final exam. Some important topics that need special attention are chemical kinetics, P block elements, D and F elements, electrochemistry, solid states and surface chemistry.

  • Read all the chapters- Your NCERT textbook is the most important book for you to prepare from. 50% of the questions asked in the exam are from this book. Part 1 and 2 contain the full syllabus that the student needs to go through. The number of chapters might seem overwhelming. Divide your time for each chapter. Go through all the chapters. Attempt all the questions at the end of each chapter and the diagrams in each chapter. This will help you understand theory even better once you practice the example and extra questions. Do not leave any chapter or part of the chapter. The NCERT book also comes in handy for competitive exams. Once you have read through the NCERT properly then you can refer to reference books for extra questions.
  • Practice questions- As mentioned, the NCERT book is the most important book to study from. The questions in the book are also important and most times these questions or similar ones are asked in the final exam and competitive exams. After going through all the chapters practice the questions at the end of each chapter. Attempt them like you would in the exam. Assess your answers and check how much they are right or wrong.   • Practice sample papers- Practicing sample papers and papers from previous years will help you get familiar with the type of questions to expect and the pattern of the exam. Most CBSE board exam papers are a mixture of questions from NCERT textbook and papers from previous years. Practice as many papers as you can. Attempt these question papers like you are giving your final exam and time yourself. Time management is very important. Time yourself and be strict with it. Make sure to divide your time in between sections as well. Assess your performance and mark your mistakes. List out the mistakes and the parts of the topic or chapter they are from and revise it more.
  • While writing the exam make sure to present your paper well. Mark important points, formulas, elements, equations etc. The diagrams should be neatly labelled. Do not spend too much time on any questions and do not leave any questions.
